Womb as a Gateway
“According to natural law the sacred wombyn’s wellness begins in the womb
and spreads out from her center like branches of a tree.” Queen Afua
The uterus is in Chinese Medicine called an extraordinary/curious fu organ. This is because it does not have a yin yang relationship with any other organ, it works alone and contains the characteristics of both the yin and yang organs. It is hollow (like a yang organs) and it holds sacred substances (like yin organs) . Furthermore, it is closely connected to Qi, blood, the Zang Fu and the meridians and collaterals of the entire body. These carry the body’s essence, fluid and blood.
The uterus regulates the feminine cycles, menarche, menstruation cycle and menopause. If we fall pregnant, its these aspects of our energetic bodies that gather here to nourish the foetus with vital substances. The lower dan tien, (下丹田, Xia Dantian, translates to the golden stove) is housed here also. It holds the life force or qi centre of our bodies as well as our essence or sexual energy.
Energetically, the dan tien is in the womb. The extra meridians, the ren and du mai are considered the most important among the Qi meridians of the energetic body. Ren Mai is the sea of the Yin Channels. The three Yin Channels of each lower limb connect to Ren Mai, which allows their bilateral pathways to communicate. Because of this, Ren Mai has a regulating effect on the Yin Channels of the body. Ren Mai has remarkably close links with the Kidneys and the Uterus. Its function is closely related to pregnancy. It regulates menstruation and nurtures the foetus. "Ren Mai governs the foetus"
3 Dan tien
In total there are three Dan Tien. the others being middle dan tian (Zhong Dan Tian) whose element is fire, located in the heart centre, and Upper Dan Tian (Shang Dan Tian) which is located at the third eye.
Acting from these points is related to higher states of awareness. The Dan Tien of the womb is also referred to as the Cinnabar field; it is the field in which qi from all sources is blended and transformed into life force.
The Womb as a Gateway
Each gateway represents a spiritual rite of passage that will liberate you from your old life and usher you into a new way of being. At each gateway we are accompanied by the inspiration, grace, protection, and guidance of the spiritual guardians, ancestors, elders and contemporaries. May we be blessed with the collective energy and transformative power of the women's circle.
